Kohli's statement is a reflection of the bubble that most famous people either slip into or are forced into.

A day after people expressed their anger and disappointment on social media over Indian captain Virat Kohli’s statement that people who prefer watching foreign batsmen over fellow nationals should not live in this country, prominent cricket analyst and commentator, Harsha Bhogle, has tweeted about the whole controversy.

In a thread of two tweets, Harsha gave a detailed insight into how players get cut-off from the real world when their days pass happily without receiving any hate or criticism, and why they must try hard not to get in that zone and learn how to take criticism.

Bhogle, in his first tweet, wrote, “Virat Kohli’s statement is a reflection of the bubble that most famous people either slip into or are forced into. The voices within it are frequently those that they wish to hear. It is a comfortable bubble and that is why famous people must try hard to prevent it from forming”.

In his second and final tweet of the thread, the 57-year-old probably reflected on his personal journey as a commentator with the Indian team. He wrote, “That is also why contrary opinions are frowned upon. Power and fame tend to attract those people who agree with you and reinforce your opinion because they benefit from proximity to fame and power.”

Harsha Bhogle, according to whom, Kohli is the best player across the globe currently, while generalising it with “most famous people”, reckons the Indian captain is residing in a “comfortable bubble” where he solely hears what he wants to hear. That’s the reason why he reacted so childishly to a fan’s question.

Here are Bhogle’s tweets:

Virat Kohli, while promoting his app, read a tweet from a fan that said, “An over-rated batsman and personally I see nothing special in his batting. I enjoy watching English and Australian batsmen more than these Indians.” Kohli, clearly, didn’t enjoy what he had read, so he replied, “Okay, I don’t think you should live in India then… you should go and live somewhere else no. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don’t mind you not liking me, but I don’t think you should live in our country and like other things. Get your priorities right.”

In the World T20 of 2016, Harsha Bhogle himself came under fire when the veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan and the then captain of the Indian cricket team, MS Dhoni slammed him for criticising Indian team’s performance. He was temporarily ousted from commentating before being brought in once again a few months later.
