'Has Delhi's Chole Bhature business hit due to your fitness?' - PM Narendra Modi asks Virat Kohli a hilarious question
On the sidelines of 'Fit India Dialogue 2020', Modi interacted with Kohli on the importance of fitness routine and diet.
India Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, interacted with many fitness experts and influencers to mark the first anniversary of ‘Fit India Movement’. The event featured many prominent names including current Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
It’s not a secret that Kohli is currently one of the fittest cricketers across the globe. Always leading his team with example, the Delhi lad has set benchmarks when it comes to fitness levels in the sport. Combining his fitness regime with a disciplined diet, Kohli has achieved unprecedented growth when it comes to his fitness standards. Even during the national lockdown, he was busy with his home workouts.
On the sidelines of ‘Fit India Dialogue 2020’, Modi also interacted with Kohli on the importance of fitness routine and diet. The PM also talked about the ‘Yo-Yo’ test with the current Indian skipper. To top it off, Modi hilariously asked Kohli whether the Chole Bhature business has taken a hit in the national capital due to his exemplary fitness regime.
I used to eat a lot of street food while growing up: Virat Kohli
“We were discussing a few minutes back, our native diet, the food from our region, I have noticed we have not had any health issues with it. From my own experience, I have seen my grandmother, she is very healthy.
She eats simple home-cooked food. When I was growing up, I used to eat a lot of street food. Whenever I used to go play, I used to eat outside a lot. From a health point of view, I realised it wasn’t good,” Kohli responded. The 31-year-old has often mentioned in the past how he would prefer Chole Bhature on cheat days.
“Physical fitness and diet, focussing on these things brought about the changes in me. Just like our sport, our lives have also gotten faster and demanding. If we are not keeping up with it, then we will be left behind,” he added.
One of the best modern-day batsmen, Kohli maintains a strict fitness regime and diet to maintain his body fat. Since his arrival in the national side, his game and physicality have undergone a phenomenal change. From making his national debut as a chubby youngster, Kohli has now become one of the fittest athletes. He has grown under the supervision of former India physio Shankar Basu, who helps the Indian skipper with tips to maintain his regime.
Kohli is currently leading Royal Challengers Bangalore in the thirteenth edition of the IPL in the UAE. After thumping Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening encounter, the Bangalore franchise is set to lock horns with KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab at Dubai International Stadium. After failing to clinch the title in the past 12 years, Kohli’s men will be vying to lift their maiden IPL trophy this season.
