The new bowling sensation, Hasan Ali, has claimed the top spot in the ICC ODI Rankings for the bowlers following his 5-wicket haul in the 3rd ODI of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. The Pakistan pacer’s achievement is a reflection to his consistent run ever since his ODI debut in the Europe last year. He stood as the leading wicket-taker during the year’s Champions Trophy and played a crucial role in his team’s triumph at the ICC event.
With the 5-wicket haul against Sri Lanka, Hasan Ali completed 50 wickets in the ODI cricket in just 24 matches. Thus he became the joint 3rd quickest to complete 50 ODI wickets and the quickest from Pakistan surpassing Waqar Younis (27 ODIs). In the 25 ODIs Hasan Ali has played so far, he went wicket less in only four matches. He picked up three 5-fers and three wickets in five consecutive games out of which four matches were at the CT 2017.

Hasan Ali, who made his ODI debut on 18th August 2016, became the No.1 bowler in this format on 18th of October 2017. By becoming the No.1 ranked ODI bowler in just 426 days, the 23-year-old became the 3rd quickest to touch the top most position in bowlers’ rankings of this format. Australia’s Keith Stackpole became the No.1 post his debut in the first ever ODI match while England’s Geoff Arnold reached No.1 in 379 days from his debut after taking 11 wickets in six matches.
Saqlain Mushtaq was the quickest from Pakistan before Hasan to reach the No.1 position in ODI bowlers’ rankings. The former off-spinner needed 835 days to reach the top spot in the ranking which puts him on the 12th position in the quickest to achieve the No.1 ODI bowler position from debut lists.
