Hasan Raza, who became Pakistan’s youngest Test debutant back in 1996, hasn’t been selected to play for Pakistan Television (PTV) side in the upcoming Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, the country’s first-class tournament. The same decision was taken after he was accused of spot-fixing. He was earlier caught on camera along with Indian cricketer Robin Morris in a video released after a sting operation by Al Jazeera.

He was recorded sitting alongside Morris, who was discussing fixing T20 matches, albeit Raza didn’t take a direct part in the conversation. Morris and Raza previously played for the Mumbai Champs in the 2007-08 Indian Cricket League, which was discontinued after a couple of seasons. Meanwhile, The 36-year-old dismissed the claims against him as per reports in The Tribune Express.

“People are trying to trap me in this but I’ve not done anything wrong. I was asked to help them in attaining the services of the players. All I did was tell those players to not get involved in anything wrong,” he mentioned earlier.

Controversy marring Pakistan cricket

Last season Raza was one of his team’s stalwarts in the batting lineup. He racked up 392 runs in seven matches at an average of 35.63. He also notched three half-centuries along with a highest score of 86 not out against Habib Bank Limited. Raza played seven Tests, 16 ODIs for Pakistan in which he scored 235 and 242 runs respectively. He also has three fifties in national colours.

He last donned the Pakistan jersey when Inzamam-ul-Haq’s men locked horns with England at Gaddafi Stadium in 2005. As far as the Quaid-e-Azam trophy is concerned, Ahmed Shehzad, the top order batsman, was also ousted as the captain of the Habib Bank Limited owing to his involvement in the doping fiasco. The 26-year-old was also not included in the list of the probable players.
