Haseeb Hameed had to go off the field during his first match of the season when he featuring for Lancashire. He has supposedly injured his hand and retired hurt only after facing 23 deliveries into the fresh season of cricket.

Hameed made his Test debut against India in late 2016 where he was very impressive as he opened the innings with his the then captain Alastair Cook who was struggling to find form during that series. Hameed was extremely calm and as it has always been a new right-handed opener in India is ought to do well.

Then only 19-years-old Hameed was brilliant and gave Cook some nice company. He scored 82 in the first Test match and was on a song during that series. The Bolton-born young boy scored 219 runs in that series against India before breaking his little finger which needed surgery.

He missed a host of Test matches because of that injury and has again got injured. This time it is his hand which made him retire from the game. The Lancashire team posted on social media about the same. The post read, “Hameed has retired hurt with Lancashire 17-0,” they were playing against Cambridge MCCU at Fenners.

Hameed was batting on 7 when he got retired hurt. His promising start to the England career has been hampered by injuries all along. However, the Lancashire opener was back at the ground on Monday morning and the situation of his fitness was still a question mark as the assessment was due. He played for England Lions when they toured Sri Lanka to play the A team of the latter. He just made 33 runs in four innings while playing for the Lions.

England doesn’t play a Test match until South Africa pay a visit to the former in July. Hameed will surely be on the side if fit and will have to make sure he performs well and seizes the opportunity.
