Haseeb Hameed shares fan boy moment with hero Sachin Tendulkar
England opener Haseeb Hameed has been a revelation for the England team. Despite being forced to leave the tour midway, he left a deep imprint of his sound game on the followers of the game. In such a short time since making his debut, he has become a household name in the world of cricket. The 19-year old has become a sensation. Such good has his batting been, that he is nicknamed as Baby Boycott in the English cricket circle. His style of play showed grit and determination.
He made his Test debut in the first Test against India at Rajkot. He scored a gritty 82 in the second innings of the match and was applauded by all. The third Test at Mohali saw him bat with a broken finger. He went against all odds and showed character. He eventually scored a fifty. England lost the match but Haseeb Hameed had won the hearts. However, he was ruled out of the series thereafter following an injury.
It was only an unfortunate thing for the young kid as he could not play the Mumbai Test thereafter. His connection with the Indian soil is a known one. Before playing for Lancashire in the County championships, Hameed had toured India as a 14-year old lad. back in 2011, Hameed had come to India to work on his game. He was trained by the Mumbai coach Vidyadhar Paradkar during that time. His coach Vidyadhar revealed that he had worked on the basics of Hameed’s gameplay.
Being a Mumbai kid comes with an assurance. You are bound to have ardent inclination towards the batting of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. Haseeb Hameed is no exception. As a young kid, he absolutely revered the legendary Indian batsman. While in Mumbai, he was supporting the English team from the sidelines. Soon after the Mumbai Test, the 19-year old sensation was lucky to have got an opportunity to meet his childhood hero. Hameed caught up with Sachin Tendulkar in Mumbai. His father accompanied him as well.
He was quick to upload a picture of his fanboy moment with the master on his Instagram account. He added the caption, “Incredible getting to spend time with my childhood inspiration, the genius @sachintendulkar #TheMaster.” Haseeb Hameed must be a very delighted man indeed at the moment. Not many get a chance to meet their childhood inspirations like him.
