The opening batsman of South Africa Hashim Amla has been rested for the third and final ODI against Bangladesh in East London. The hosts have already won the series by winning the first couple of matches of the series and now would look to clean sweep them like they did in Test series. However, the skipper Faf Du Plessis also hinted at some of the experiments they would like to make for the dead rubber on Sunday. Aiden Markram is set to replace him in the side who impressed everyone in the recently concluded Test series against the same team.
Hashim Amla has been in great form for his team in both the Test and ODI series and has racked up 492 in the four matches he played against the visiting side including three centuries. The decision to rest him was taken by Cricket South Africa (CSA) as sterner oppositions are set to visit the country in the near future. Proteas would need their best batsman throughout the summer then and would want to start fresh against them.
Hapless Bangladesh struggling to compete
South Africa has rolled over their opposition so far on this tour and even they are expecting some competition now. Du Plessis had felt sorry for Bangladesh after the first ODI but then he cleared that they would want to be ruthless. In the second game, the returning AB de Villiers piled on the agony when the bowlers looked in control and scored a magnificent 176 runs knock off just 104 deliveries. The visitors need some spark from somewhere. They batted much better in the last game but that wasn’t enough to beat a complete side like South Africa.
Amla though would love some time off after playing continuously since their tour to England. He has been ever so solid for them across formats over the years. He would be now looking forward to the Test series against India which would be clear shootout to regain the top spot in Test cricket. India is currently enjoying the numero uno position and are sitting pretty.
