Hashim Amla terms the ball-tampering scandal as a ‘reality check’ for the other teams

The Australian cricket team has received the most devastating setback following the sanctions reprimanded by the Cricket Australia (CA) on the major issue of ball-tampering controversy. CA has penalized the Aussie skipper Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, who was caught on the cameras while attempting to alter the condition of the ball. In the consequences of their mistakes, the Australian board has handed one-year bans to both Warner and Smith and Bancroft has been charged with a 9-month ban.
Earlier, the ICC had also penalized the Smith with a one-match suspension and a fine of 100% of his match fees and Bancroft was fined 75% of his match fees. But in order to set some strict examples and uphold the true spirit of the game, CA decided to charge the three culprits involved in this improper activities pretty severely. While the former Aussie vice-captain was not granted any punishments by the ICC, his name was constantly speculated as an important person involved in the whole controversy.

CA also mentioned that both Smith and Bancroft cannot captain the national side for the next two years, while Warner is not allowed to lead his team for the rest of his career. South African cricketer Hashim Amla who is one of the most respectable cricketers in the current Proteas side termed this whole ball-tampering controversy as a ‘reality check’ for the other teams. He mentioned that it is always a personal choice regarding the manner any respective team wants to play this game. Amla also revealed that it becomes very important to maintain the game because that is the right job of all sportsmen.
“With all the distractions, there is not much we can do from our perspective. I am grateful that we are sitting in the South African change room without the shadows hanging over us. For us, it is about the cricket. You’ve got to keep your focus as professional sportsmen,” said Amla as quoted by the Deccan Chronicle.
