Hasin Jahan's lawyer questions BCCIs investigation procedures
Neeraj Kumar, the head of the ACU, has submitted the report and mentioned that no further are warranted pertaining to the charges.
Hasin Jahan and Mohammad Shami’s heated exchanges have turned ugly with every new revelation coming to the fore. However, most recently, the case has taken an unexpected turn, much to the relief of the Indian fast bowler. Shami has finally been freed from charges of match-fixing, which was alleged to have been hurled by Jahan.
Moreover, he has been given a Grade B contract by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which doesn’t come as a delightful news for Hasin Jahan. More importantly, he has also been cleared to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Delhi Daredevils. Shami was bought for INR 3 crores in the auction of the upcoming season in Bangalore.
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) of the BCCI headed by Vinod Rai asked the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) to make a probe into the charges pelted at him by Jahan. Neeraj Kumar, the head of the ACU, has submitted the report and mentioned that no further actions are warranted pertaining to the charges, a decision which comes as a breath of fresh air.
U-turn by Zakir and Jahan?
However, Zakir Hasan, the lawyer of Jahan, mentioned that the allegations were never about match-fixing. He subsequently questioned the investigation procedures by the BCCI, while mentioning that he cannot raise an allegation against the Indian cricket board.
He said: “My client’s allegation was never about match-fixing. I cannot raise any allegation on BCCI, but I want to know on what basis and parameters was BCCI’s investigation based on.”
However, despite getting the contract back, the turbulence for Shami doesn’t end here. He has also been charged with domestic violence and death threats, which are yet to be investigated. Meanwhile, the fact that Shami will don the national jersey comes a good news for his fans as well.
