'He beat me, he was very quick' - Dwayne Bravo recalls how MS Dhoni challenged him to a race in IPL 2018
Bravo, who has been an integral part of CSK franchise, was retained by the side for INR 6.4 crore via the use of Right to Match Card in IPL 2018 auction.
Apart from his batting forte, agile wicketkeeping and leaderships skills, MS Dhoni is also known for his running between the wickets. He is regarded as one of the fastest sprinters in the Indian side and he has proved this on several instances on the field.
The Chennai Super Kings skipper has the ability to trounce any youngster in taking quick singles during a match. After defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of IPL 2018, Dhoni had flaunted his running pace yet again. The CSK skipper competed with all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in a three-run dash after the final and pipped the West Indian to win the race.
Recently, Dwayne Bravo revealed the story behind the incident and said that it was Dhoni who wanted a race during IPL 2018. During a conversation with CSK on Instagram, the West Indies all-rounder revealed that the former Indian skipper teased him and called him ‘an old man’ and hence, Bravo challenged Dhoni in a sprint.

Bravo also lauded Dhoni for his pace and said that it was a very close race. He accepted that Dhoni beat him and said that it was a good race indeed.
“He kept saying throughout the entire season that I am an old man, I am an old man. I am very slow. I told him, ‘I will challenge you in a sprint between the wickets’. He said ‘no chance’. I said ‘we will do it after the tournament is over’,” Bravo told Chennai Super Kings.
“I said ‘I don’t want to do it in the middle of the tournament and one of us pop our hamstrings’. We did it after the final. It was a very close race, very very close. He beat me. It was a good race. He was very quick,” he added.
Bravo, who has been an integral part of CSK franchise, was retained by the side for INR 6.4 crore via the use of Right to Match Card in IPL 2018 auction. He played a crucial role in that season as he scored 141 runs in 16 matches along with scalping 14 wickets. Bravo also had a decent run in the subsequent season as he scalped 11 wickets and scored 80 runs in IPL 2020.
Bravo, who made his national comeback in T20 side last year, will be eager for the commencement of IPL 2020. The much-awaited tournament was called off in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. The league has been postponed indefinitely and the possibility of the tournament to happen this year looks bleak.
