'He came back with some form' - Mohammad Kaif picks David Warner as the greatest T20 batsman
David Warner has a batting average of 43.17 in the IPL, which is much better than the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
When the T20 cricket first came into existence in 2003, no one knew how big the format when will. But, 17 years down the line, the shortest format of cricket has spread all across the globe and it has been generating an audience which the sport has never seen.
In a lot of ways, T20 cricket has also revolutionised batting. Back in the 80s and 90s, scoring at a run a ball was considered as a big deal. However, the shortest format has surely made cricket a lot faster and enjoyable as far as batting is concerned.
David Warner is one of the players who has come along from this T20 generation. He announced his arrival at the international level with an outstanding 89-run knock against South Africa in 2009.
David Warner has been consistent: Mohammad Kaif
It has been over a decade when that knock was played. But, he is still one of the best T20 batsmen in the world. His records in the shortest format of the game are quite brilliant. In fact, according to Mohammad Kaif, he is the best greatest batsman of the format.
During a recent interaction with former U19 India captain Priyam Garg on Helo app, Kaif was answering a few questions. One of them was: “Who’s the greatest T20 batsman according to you?”. To this, it seemed that the ex-Indian cricketer didn’t have too much to think about. He pointed out the Australian opener has been quite consistent with the bat.
“David Warner has been consistent. He’s a very good batsman. He was banned for one year, served it away from cricket, but came back with some form and scored a big amount of runs,” Kaif said.
Warner has been one of the most consistent performers in the IPL. He has won three Orange caps in the cash-rich league. He won the award in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
He is one of the most successful batsmen in the league. In 126 matches, he has scored 4706 runs at an average of 43.17 and his strike rate has been 142.39. He has scored four centuries and 44 half-centuries in the tournament. The southpaw has undoubtedly found success in the shortest format all over the world.
