Ryan ten Doeschate of The Netherlands feels that India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan are the top all-rounders of the modern era.
Doeschate stated that while someone like Jadeja might never be the highest run-scorer or the highest wicket-taker, he can still turn the match in favour of his side with a quickfire cameo with the bat in hand.
“I think Shakib (Al Hasan) would be hard to look past. Ravindra Jadeja will be up there. If I had to choose two of the top all-rounders, I would probably go with those two.
Okay, his (Jadeja’s) ability to affect the game, so yes he is never going to be your leading run-scorer or leading wicket-taker, (but) he is going to win you a game. with his 37 off 16 balls. He is going to get you over the line or when you are 120/5, he is going to get you up-to 160/170,” said Ryan ten Doeschate in an interaction organized by the ICC.
Ryan ten Doeschate heapes praises on Shakib Al Hasan and Ravindra Jadeja
Ryan ten Doeschate further showered praises on both Shakib Al Hasan and Ravindra Jadeja. The 41-year-old stated that Shakib Al Hasan proved how valuable he can be for his side during the 2019 World Cup, and top-scored for the Bangladesh side with the willow.
Doeschate added that while Jadeja might not have accumulated great numbers, he has the ability to turn a match on its head and win a game for whichever team he plays for.
“You saw Shakib’s numbers in the last World Cup (2019), he was the leading run-scorer, just shows what he has added to his team. Someone like Jadeja, as I said his numbers aren’t going to be so great, (but) you always feel that any stage of the game that he can just flip the game on his head and win a game for you, I think particularly in tournament mode, that is probably the biggest quality,” concluded Ryan ten Doeschate.
Ryan ten Doeschate played 33 ODIs and 22 T20Is for The Netherlands. While he scored 1541 runs in ODIs, he amassed 533 runs in T20I cricket. The right-arm pacer scalped 55 and 13 wickets, in ODIs and T20Is respectively.
