'He doesn't deserve such treatment' - Shahid Afridi reacts to MS Dhoni's 5-year-old daughter getting rape threats
Such a disturbing incident also led to police patrolling in civil clothes near Dhoni's farmhouse in Ranchi.
The entire cricket fraternity was left stunned after MS Dhoni’s five-year-old daughter recently received rape threats. In a cricket-obsessed nation like India, there have been many toxic incidents when a player’s family has been targetted for his poor on-field show.
Following Chennai Super Kings’ defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav were heavily trolled for their sluggish batting show. Dhoni managed to amass 11 off 12 balls while Jadhav stitched a snail-paced 12-ball 7 against the Kolkata bowling force.
CSK are currently going through a woeful run in the on-going IPL 2020, having won just two games out of seven. To multiply their woes, CSK failed in a run-chase yet again to hand KKR a 10-run victory. Chennai side had to face the heat as fans bashed their below-par batting performance.
However, it didn’t end there. It eventually turned into a disturbing incident where Dhoni’s five-year-old daughter was given rape and physical violence threats. Many such comments were spotted across Instagram accounts of Dhoni and his wife Sakshi.
MS Dhoni has taken Indian cricket to new heights: Shahid Afridi
Several prominent names including former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan lashed out at such people who target a player’s loved ones and pass toxic comments on the internet. Such a disturbing incident also led to police patrolling in civil clothes near Dhoni’s farmhouse in Ranchi. Due to security reasons, the place had to be put under security.
Reacting to the incident, former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has also commented in support of Dhoni. According to Afridi, Dhoni has taken Indian cricket to new heights and hence, he doesn’t deserve such treatment.
“I don’t know what sort of threats were directed at MS Dhoni & his family but it’s not right & shouldn’t happen. Dhoni’s the person who has taken Indian cricket to new heights. He’s taken junior & senior players along this journey & doesn’t deserve such treatment,” said Afridi as quoted by PakPassion Editor Saj Sadiq.
Upon Dhoni’s retirement in August, Afridi had also congratulated the former India skipper for having a great career. Afridi had labelled Dhoni as one of the true legends along with wishing him best for his future endeavours.
