'He has done an amazing job' - Aaron Finch lavishes praises on head coach Justin Langer
Finch spoke about Langer's achievements in the last few months.
Australia’s limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch has praised head coach Justin Langer for his efforts towards the national team. Langer’s tenure is ending in June and a lot of his former team-mates have openly supported for his extension. The former Aussie opener took over the job after his predecessor Darren Lehmann resigned after the infamous sandpapergate scandal in 2018. Since then, his side has managed to reach the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 before losing the knockout game to England.
Apart from this, his side retained the Ashes in 2019 in England, a feat achieved after Steve Waugh-led team did it in 2001. The 2001 team won the Ashes by a whooping margin of 4-1. In 2021, the Aaron Finch-led managed to win the ever elusive T20 World Cup trophy for the first time. Recently, the team thrashed visiting England by 4-0 in the Ashes under a new leader Pat Cummins.
Finch spoke about the achievements of the 51-year-old in the last few months but refrained from commenting on Cricket Australia’s process of selecting the head coach. He added that whatever CA does is out of hands for the players.
“To win the World Cup when no-one really gave us a chance and then dominate the Ashes 4-0, was super impressive. I’m not going to comment on what CA’s process will be, but he has done an amazing job in the last few months in particular,” Finch was quoted as saying by Fox Cricket.
“Whatever happens from the CA side of things, that’s out of our control as players. His contract is up, no doubt there will be some talk there. Patty (Cummins) and myself might be contacted. I’ve got no idea. I’ve never been in the leadership role when someone’s coaching contract has been up. But like I said, he’s done an unbelievable job and to see how good the environment has been throughout the T20 World Cup and then the Ashes is a credit to everyone involved.”
Adam Gilchrist bats for Justin Langer’s extension
Former wicketkeeper batter Adam Gilchrist has also batted for the extension of Justin Langer and pointed out what he did during his narly four-year tenure.
“What possibly could @CricketAus Board be waiting for? Rebuild Team Brand/Values Retain Ashes in UK Take Undermanned Team abroad, get thrashed and not panic,” Gilchrist tweeted.
