Mohammad Amir hogged all the limelight last year when he decided to abruptly end his international career. Along with announcing his retirement from the international circuit, the 29-year-old blamed the Pakistan team management for mentally torturing him.
Amir hurled some serious accusations against the coaches and asserted that the head coach Misbah-ul-Haq tried to destroy his cricket career by not providing him a chance in the playing XI. Pakistan Cricket Board CEO Wasim Khan finally broke his silence on the entire issue as he revealed that the authorities are making efforts to mend things between the team management and the pacer.
Khan admitted that Amir is an asset for the Pakistan team and they are trying their best so that he can play for the country again. Wasim added that he had a conversation with the speedster and told him that his way of representing his problems with the team management wasn’t right.
“I also made it clear to him that the path he adopted was not right as a senior player. I think Amir is a valuable player for us even now and we will now make efforts to bring about a rapprochement between him and the coaches,” Wasim Khan said as quoted by Times on India
We will review Misbah’s contract and results after the World T20 Cup: Wasim Khan
Further in the interaction, Wasim revealed that the head coach Misbah has a contract with the Pakistan team till September 2023 but the authorities will be taking a detailed review about the head coach from the players after the T20 World Cup, scheduled in India later this year. He added that the Pakistan Cricket Board will revisit the contract of the head coach after the World Cup and will decide on its future.
“We want to support our coaches and give them proper time but it does not stop us from carrying out reviews of their performances from time to time and we will review Misbah’s contract and results after the World T20 Cup,” he said.
The PCB official said there are no plans, at the moment, to bring in a specialist white-ball coach as Misbah had formed a good working relationship with captain Babar Azam and the latter had also started to show leadership qualities.
