‘He is perfectly suited to Australian conditions’ - Shane Warne backs Matt Parkinson to shine in Ashes 2021-22

The cricket calendar is packed in the coming months with several important fixtures lined up. White-ball cricket has been in major focus lately as the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is just months away. However, following the conclusion of the global event, Ashes 2021-22 will become the talk of the town. This iconic Test series will see Australia hosting England and it would be interesting to see how the fixtures unfold.

With the Ashes urn holding such great significance, several players from both nations would be preparing to shine in the Ashes. England will face a tougher challenge in the upcoming Ashes with Australia enjoying the same advantage. Hence, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) must be prepared with their best crop of players. Former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne certainly has a piece of advice for ECB in this regard.

Warne has backed uncapped England leg-spinner Matt Parkinson to shine down under. Warne, who’s arguably the best leg-spinner of all time, also believes that Parkinson would be mighty effective in the bouncy tracks. “I think Parkinson is very, very good. I really like the look of the way he bowls and he is a great addition to the white-ball cricket, but also I see him playing a huge part in Test cricket, especially in Australia,” Cricwick quoted Warne as per saying.

Won’t be surprised if Matt Parkinson plays the Gabba Test

“I wouldn’t be surprised in that first Test match at the Gabba if he is penciled in the XI. I think of the Australian conditions, the pace he bowls, the amount of bounce and spin he gets, I think he is perfectly suited to Australian conditions,” he added.

Notably, England’s next assignment in Test cricket is a five-match series against India at home next month. Although Parkinson hasn’t been added in the squad for the first two games, Warne predicted that the 24-year-old might receive his maiden Test cap later in the series.

“I wouldn’t be surprised in that first Test match at the Gabba if he is penciled in the XI. I think of the Australian conditions, the pace he bowls, the amount of bounce and spin he gets, I think he is perfectly suited to Australian conditions,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, Parkinson is currently plying his trade in The Hundred where he’s associated with Manchester Originals. Warne is the head coach of London Spirit in the same tournament.
