Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has opined that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen several finishers but former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) MS Dhoni has been the best among all. It may be noted that Dhoni played an excellent knock against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians and sealed the deal for his side in style.
However, the defending champions are not doing well in the current edition as they are placed ninth on the points table with just two wins in seven matches. CSK have lost their encounters against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Gujarat Titans (GT), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
MS Dhoni is the greatest finisher in the history of IPL: Irfan Pathan
Speaking during a cricket discussion on Star Sports, Pathan said, “MS Dhoni is the greatest finisher in the history of IPL. Year after year, someone else has been joining this list but no one has been able to displace Dhoni. He is the identity of this league, it’s a true ambassador. MSD and AB de Villiers have been the biggest finishers in the history of IPL, but Dhoni is at the forefront of it.”
The former Indian all-rounder also emphasized the fact that even though CSK are languishing at bottom of the table, no other team should take the defending champions CSK lightly as they know how to comeback from the worst of situations.
“No team can make the mistake of underestimating CSK. This is a team that knows how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. This team has done it many a time and that is why it has always been the most dangerous of sides in the history of the league,” Pathan added.
The defending champions will face Punjab Kings in their next encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 25 (Monday). The Yellow Army is coming to the encounter after defeating MI and would want to continue their winning momentum.
