'He is the king of cricket' - Washington Sundar reveals how many times he got Virat Kohli out in nets

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman of the modern era. Kohli has quite conveniently stamped his authority in the gentleman’s game and is winning hearts both as a leader and as a skipper. The charismatic cricketer made his debut for India in August 2008 after leading the U19 team to victory in the ICC U19 World Cup 2008.

Since then there has been no looking back for the right-hander as he has grown by leaps and bounds in the cricket fraternity. Hailed as ‘King Kohli’, Virat has represented India in 91 Test matches and 254 One Day Internationals scoring a whopping 7490 and 12169 runs respectively. The 32-year-old has also featured in 90 T20 Internationals collecting 3159 runs at a strike rate of 139 and an average of 52.6.

With such stunning numbers under his belt, it won’t be wrong to say that it is quite a task for the bowlers to dismiss the Indian skipper. For many players, it is nothing less than a dream to take the wicket of Virat either during the net sessions or cricket match. The same is the case for young Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar. Both Virat and Washington play together for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during the Indian Premier League (IPL). 

I don’t think I would get him out every session: Washington Sundar

Thus, Sundar has bowled to Virat many a time during the net sessions. During ESPNCricinfo’s ’25 Questions’ chat show, Sundar was asked how many times has he been able to dismiss the skipper at the nets. To this, the 21-year-old heaped praises on his skipper saying that Virat is the King of cricket and he hasn’t succeeded in picking his wicket often.

Sundar added that he isn’t able to get Virat out in every net session but he would be extremely happy if he manages to pick the wicket of the batting maestro once in every two sessions. “Not too often. He is the king of cricket. I don’t think I would get him out every session. Probably once in every two sessions, if I could get him out, I would be happy,” he said.
