Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has once again taken a dig at Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell over his poor performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Barring the 2014 season, Maxwell has struggled to make an impact in the cash-rich league and the 13th edition of IPL turned out to be worse for him. After playing almost all matches for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Maxwell could only muster 108 runs and couldn’t hit even a single six.

On the contrary, while representing Australia soon after the IPL, he has shown some excellent form with the bat. Glenn Maxwell scored 167 runs in three ODIs against India at an exceptional strike-rate of 194.19. He smacked 12 fours and a massive 11 sixes in the series. When it came to the T20I series against the same opposition, he scored 78 runs with five sixes at a strike-rate of 150.

Looking at his contrasting performances in the IPL and for Australia, Virender Sehwag reckons that Glenn Maxwell plays the T20 league only for enjoyment and he isn’t serious about his cricket at all. Sehwag also stated that the Aussie will do everything apart from scoring runs in the IPL.

“He (Maxwell) doesn’t take pressure at all (In IPL). He is there only for enjoyment. He will do everything in the match – encourage players, roam around, dance – other than scoring runs. As soon as the match is over, if he is getting free drinks he will take that to his room or go to the room and have a lot of drinks.

“So, I never felt that he is that serious about the game. When he comes to the IPL, he is more serious about his golf than cricket. Because if you are that serious, the performance shows,” he said while speaking to Sony Network.

Glenn Maxwell’s attitude changes while playing for Australia, says Sehwag

Sehwag also added that Glenn Maxwell’s attitude is completely different while representing for his country as there is a chance of him getting dropped from the team. But when it comes to IPL, he is guaranteed of a fat paycheque irrespective of his performances.

“His attitude changes when he plays for Australia. When he goes to Australia, he knows that if he has two or three bad innings, he will be left out of the Australian team and it will be difficult to make a comeback,” Sehwag further added.
