'He will be a good choice' – Deepak Chahar backs Shikhar Dhawan to lead India against Sri Lanka
Deepak Chahar feels hard-hitting Southpow Shikhar Dhawan would make a good leader for the Sri Lanka tour.
Team India’s pacer Deepak Chahar has backed Shikhar Dhawan to lead India on their tour to Sri Lanka starting in the month of July. The 28-year-old swing bowler feels the Dhawan has the right attitude and experience among the players. This is only the second time in Indian cricket’s history that two teams will travel simultaneously.
The squad is yet to be announced and the selectors have a nice headache to decide the leader of a fairly young squad, which will play three ODIs and three T20 matches. Apart from Dhawan, Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the other possible options for the leadership role. The hard-hitting Southpaw has previous captaincy experience while leading his state team Delhi and Sunriseres Hyderabad in the IPL.
Chahar now has given his verdict on the same while speaking to the Times of India, and his choice is Dhawan for the job.
“Shikhar bhai will be a good choice (for captain). He has been playing for a long time and has a lot of experience. For me, a senior person should become a captain. Because players see that player as a senior and respect him and obey him with honesty. Players should respect their captain. He (Dhawan) will be a good choice,” claimed Chahar.
Chahar confident about performing on the Sri Lanka tour
The 28-year-old was seen in good form in the IPL where he picked 11 wickets for CSK and is almost certain to make it to the squad along with Kumar and Navdeep Saini as the other pace bowlers. Chahar also believed that India has a good chance of winning the series without its first-choice players.
“I am all set for the Sri Lanka tour. I bowled well in the IPL. I was in good touch. I am excited to play in Sri Lanka. In my opinion, experience gives you a lot of confidence. I have experience now and I am confident of a good showing in Sri Lanka. I am sure we will emerge victorious against Sri Lanka. Our second-string team is looking as strong as the main team. We have a lot of options,” Chahar further said.
