'He will be assessed tomorrow' - Eoin Morgan opens up on Jason Roy's injury
Eoin Morgan also revealed that Jason Roy’s condition will be assessed on 7th November 2021, and added that the England squad has a lot of depth.
England opener Jason Roy suffered an injury during the T20 World Cup match between England and South Africa. When he set off for a single, Roy was seen hobbling and was in tremendous pain.
It was revealed that Roy injured his calf, and England skipper Eoin Morgan has opened up on Roy’s injury. Morgan said that the England side has already dealt with a lot of injuries coming into the tournament, with the likes of Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes already ruled out.
Morgan also revealed that Roy’s condition will be assessed on 7th November 2021, and added that the England squad has a lot of depth.
“We have dealt with a lot of injuries throughout and before the tournament with Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, and Jofra Archer all out. Jason Roy will be assessed tomorrow but we have a lot of depth and that is something we have tried to build over the last couple of years,” said Morgan after the match between England and South Africa.
It will be heartbreaking for Jason Roy: Robert Key
Former England cricketer Robert Key said that Jason Roy’s injury is bad news for England, as the England opening combo of Roy and Jos Buttler were devastating in the tournament. However, Key was quick to add that England possesses a strong squad. Key concluded by stating that Roy will be heartbroken after his injury.
“It is bad as that opening partnership between Roy and Buttler is a pretty devastating one for opposition bowling attacks but England do also have (Jonny) Bairstow, who is one of the best opening batters in T20 cricket. So it’s not a complete disaster because England do have a strong squad. For Roy, though, it has to be heartbreaking. You could see how upset he was,” concluded Robert Key.
Jason Roy scored 123 runs in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup for England and scored his runs at an average of 30.75 and a strike rate of 138.20.
