David Warner endured a horrible start to the second leg of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the willow. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) left-hander was dismissed for a duck by Delhi Capitals’ (DC) pacer Anrich Nortje. Warner tried to play the ball towards the leg side, but the ball took the outside edge of his willow and the fielder at point completed the catch.

And interestingly, former South African pace bowling colossus Dale Steyn had predicted before the match between Hyderabad and Delhi that Warner would score big runs.

However, Steyn also warned that he has not got many of his predictions right, so he will take the responsibility for Warner’s failure.

“Watch David Warner score big runs tonight. I haven’t called anything right though so if he doesn’t it’s on me,” said Steyn in a chat with ESPN.

Delhi Capitals thrash Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets

The Delhi Capitals side hammered the Sunrisers Hyderabad outfit in the 33rd match of the tournament, winning the contest with 8 wickets and 13 balls to spare. Wielding the willow first, the SRH side could only manage to post 134/9 in 20 overs.

After the SRH top order failed to get going, youngster Abdul Samad and Rashid Khan scored useful runs for the ‘Orange Army’. While Samad scored a quick 28 off 21 deliveries, Rashid scored 22.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) produced an extremely disciplined performance with the ball. Anrich Nortje was fast and accurate, and the SRH batsmen could not find a way to negotiate the right-arm pacer. In the 4 overs that he bowled, Nortje scalped 2 wickets and gave away runs at a miserly economy rate of just 3 runs per over.

His fellow compatriot, Kagiso Rabada scalped 3 wickets as well, while Axar Patel picked up 2 wickets. In reply, the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) batsmen broke no sweat, as the side cantered past the target with ease. While left-hander Shikhar Dhawan scored a composed 42 at the top of the order, Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 47*. Skipper Rishabh Pant then applied the finishing touches, scoring a marauding 35* at a strike rate of 166.66 to get the job done for his side.
