'Heartbreaking scenes' - Fans gets emotional as MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli don't come up for toss for CSK vs RCB clash
Fans went emotional after Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni did not walk out as leaders for the toss in the CSK-RCB rivalry.
It wasn’t familiar scenes today at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai for the fans as Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja walked out as captains for the toss in the rivalry between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Since Virat Kohli had taken up full-time leadership for RCB in 2013, it had always been him and MS Dhoni walking out for the toss with a huge ovation from the crowd whenever these two teams met but it wasn’t the case this time.
Kohli had given up captaincy for the RCB franchise after the last edition of IPL 2021 but has continued to play as a batter while Dhoni was Chennai Super Kings captain since the inception of IPL in 2008. However, two days prior to the start of the tournament, Dhoni had stepped down from captaincy and Ravindra Jadeja was appointed the next captain. While the captaincy change has worked out really well for RCB, with three wins in four games, it hasn’t been the same story for CSK, who suffered four losses in four games.
Fans came in massive numbers to support MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli
Apart from the captaincy, Dhoni and Kohli have huge fan followers in the country and are deemed as two of the best match-winners in the limited-overs format. Dhoni has been very successful as a leader for CSK with four titles under his belt while Kohli hasn’t been able to lift the IPL trophy despite reaching the finals on three occasions.
Also, the fact that Dhoni after his international retirement has been playing only the IPL and it becomes even harder for the fans to witness Kohli and Dhoni doing their rituals ahead of the toss. They have always had a great bonding with each other and it won’t be a big surprise if Kohli goes up to Dhoni to have a chat with him as well as discuss the areas he needs to address. The last time the two legends were seen together in one frame was in the T20 World Cup 2021 where Dhoni was the mentor of the Indian side led by Virat Kohli.
