Australia and Bangladesh are scheduled to lock horns in a Test match after a gap of 11 years. Bangladesh are preparing to host the Steven Smith-led side for a 2 Test series where spin is said to be the major obstacle ahead of the visitors. But the home team’s fans would be disappointed to know about the weather forecast in Dhaka, the venue for the first game which starts on Friday.

Increased chances of rain in Dhaka

It is the end of the monsoon season in Bangladesh and heavy showers are forecasted for the best part of the five days of the Test match. According to the weather department, the amount and duration of the rainfall are likely to be increased towards the last week of this month compared to the present. This year, the rains have been brutal in some parts of the country as it has caused a lot of areas to flood and a lot of people have been affected.

The second Test of the series is scheduled to start on September 4 in Chittagong. Initially, the series was under a cloud as Cricket Australia was unsure about the security arrangements in the country. They had postponed the tour in 2015 citing security concerns but the security team sent to Bangladesh by CA earlier this year gave the arrangements a green flag which prompted Australia to go ahead with the series.

Pay dispute casts doubts on the series

But an ugly spat between the players and the CA over a pay deal again put the series under a cloud. Both parties, after a long series of discussions, finally ended the pay scuffle and Australia traveled to Bangladesh on August 18. Rains are expected to play spoilsport during the course of the short series. Bangladesh, who are a much improved side now, are expected to give Australia a scare in the 2-Test series.
