The Indian team captain Virat Kohli had a commendable run in the entire calendar year in which he scored 10 remarkable hundreds across all formats of the game. The run-machine batsman’s personal life took a major turn recently as he got married to famous Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma on 11th December in a closely guarded affair in Italy. In the latest ICC T20 rankings, it was revealed that Virat Kohli has fell down to the third spot after being on the top of the charts for a long time.

The Indian skipper took a much-needed rest from the sport due to the hectic and busy scheduling of the Indian team in the recent months. He enjoyed a great time in the entire year 2017 in which the batsman achieved a healthy average of over 50 in all formats of the game. It is believed that the slip in the rating is due to missing the T20 series against Sri Lanka at home because of the marriage ceremonies of the Indian cricketer.

Aussie opener Aaron Finch tumbled his way to the top spot in the ICC T20 rankings with the rating of 784 points to his name. Windies opener Evin Lewis occupied the second spot on the charts after a great year in the shortest format of the game. In an attempt to explain the reason for Kohli’s flunk, the ICC released a statement that said players loose two percent of their rating points as a penalty for missing each T2o international match. The Indian skipper was rested for the three-match T20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka, while in his absence vice-captain Rohit Sharma led the Indian team to the victory in the limited overs series.

“As players lose two percent of their rating points for each T20I missed, Kohli, has slipped from 824 points to 776 points,” stated the ICC release.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team emerged victorious in the T20 series by whitewashing the Lankans 3-0. They were completely dominant and incredible in entire limited overs series. India also moved from the fifth spot to take the second place in ICC T20 Team rankings after the win against Sri Lanka.

“India have moved up from their pre-series tally of 119 points to 121 points. They have leapfrogged England, New Zealand and the Windies to move from fifth to second position in a list led by Pakistan with 124 points,” added the ICC release.
