Here is what Women’s cricket team learnt from Virat Kohli’s mistake
The Indian Women are also scheduled to tour South Africa next month.
Lack of preparation has been termed the primary reason for Team India’s Test series defeat in South Africa. Former India captain, Bishan Singh Bedi lashed out at the management for wasting time playing against Sri Lanka ahead of the tour. India had invited Sri Lanka for a full-fledged tour before flying off to the African country.
Apart from Bedi, a list of other former cricketers including Manoj Prabhakar have lashed out at Virat Kohli and his men for their ill-preparedness. They had their moments in both the matches but failed to grab it and convert them into an advantage. South Africa on the other hand have just done that and thus lead the series 2-0.
The Women’s team learns the lesson
It looks like Mithali Raj & Co. do not want to repeat the same mistake committed by Virat Kohli’s men. The Indian women’s cricket team has already started preparing for their South Africa tour that starts next month. Learning from what they see, the Women’s team will reach the rainbow nation well ahead of the opening encounter.
Harmanpreet Kaur, a key member of the Indian Women’s team addressed the media about their preparation. She said: “Going early will help us. It is important to acclimatise to South African conditions. We are going to have a camp and then two practice matches before playing South Africa in the ODI series.”
The women’s squad is currently in Mumbai for a weeklong camp and things seem to be working well for them at the moment. “Girls have done well in this camp. Since we will be playing ODIs and T20Is, we are preparing separately. We also have some new girls in the team, and for them, it was important to interact with the others and get a sense of belonging,” she further added.
Kaur also believes that her experience in Australia playing the WBBL will help her in South Africa. This tour is the first International assignment for the Women in Blue after the Women’s World Cup last year in England.
“We were playing a lot before the World Cup and all of us needed this break. Though it would have been better if we had played one or two matches in this period, this was a break our bodies needed,” she said about the break.
She also thinks the men will bounce back strong hereon. “It’s a learning process for them. They were playing in India for a long time. Suddenly, making a transition to foreign conditions is not easy. I’m sure they will make a comeback,” she concluded.
