Here is the reason why BCCI upheld Shami's contract despite no proofs for the allegations
It is worth noting that the allegations surfaced the media on the same day when the contracts were to be announced by the board.
Team India speedster Mohammed Shami is going through a very tough phase in his life. His personal life is in shambles after several allegations imposed on him by his wife, Hasin Jahan. If that was not all, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) upheld his central contract as well. It is worth noting that the allegations surfaced the media on the same day when the contracts were to be announced by the board.
It was reasoned out that the BCCI is waiting for the legal clearances before giving out a central contract to the tainted pacer. However, many questioned why did the board uphold the contract when the allegations were not even proved. As per the recent reports, the answer to this question has come out in the media. The BCCI did not wish to give out a wrong message to the public by handling the contract to a player who had allegations of adultery against him.
Hasin Jahan had also alleged that Shami took money from a Dubai-based lady named Alishba. She cited that it could have links with match fixing as well. Although Shami came out and answered these allegations, the board decided to play safe in this regard.
“Less than 30 cricketers from a pool of hundreds are privileged to earn an India contract. In such a small group, if there’s a cricketer who is being accused by his wife of adultery and there are other serious allegations, what message is the BCCI sending to society in general. If not for the fixing allegations made by his wife, the opposition would’ve continued. The board was almost on the verge of a huge blunder,” a close source quoted as per the quotes in Deccan Chronicle.
“We’re talking about a very important India cricketer, so whatever is done in this regard, BCCI needs to ensure that he’s not lost to mere allegations or biases of investigations reveal he was set up,” the source mentioned.
Charges against Shami
Currently, Mohammed Shami has been charged with several non-bailable and bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 498A – cruelty to a woman by her husband or his relatives, Section 307 – attempt to murder, Section 323 – punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 376 – rape, Section 506 – criminal intimidation, Section 328 and Section 34 based on the complaints filed by his wife.
