After three entertaining T20Is between the West Indies and India, the action now shifts to Miami where both sides will be playing the remaining two matches of this limited-overs bilateral series at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on August 6 and 7 respectively. The Men in Blue are currently leading the five-match series 2-1.

As the Indian team looks to continue their splendid run in the shortest format heading into the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup, here’s a look at how well they have fared while taking the field in the United States of America playing in Miami, Florida. It is to be noted that the Indians were involved in an edge-of-a-seat thriller during a T20I encounter against the then reigning T20 world champions West Indies at that venue. In total, India have played four matches at this venue with one being a no result.

4. 2019 – India make easy work of West Indies

India played their first international match after the 2019 World Cup and they faced West Indies in the opening T20I at Lauderhill, Florida on August 3, 2019. While an action-packed contest was expected between the two champion sides in the shortest format, it completely turned out to be one-way traffic as the Windies were restricted to 95/9 courtesy of remarkable bowling performance from the then debutant Navdeep Saini who chipped in with figures of 3/17 from his four overs including a maiden. In reply, the Men in Blue chased down this target in the 18th over, winning by four wickets.

The second match was played on the very next day. However, things did not go according to plan as there was a long rain delay and when the game resumed later in the day, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. Rohit Sharma took the West Indies bowlers to the cleaners with his attacking brand of cricket as India ended up posting a stiff total of 167/5 from their 20 overs. In what seemed to be a regulation chase, the Windies batters miserably failed to apply themselves as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and the runs dried up as well.

Only middle-order batter Rovman Powell fought single-handedly scoring 54 runs off 34 deliveries and when he was dismissed, it was a steep hill to climb for the home team. When the hosts’ scorecard read 98/4 after 15.3 overs, it started raining heavily and no play was possible. As a result of which India won the contest by 22 runs (D/L method). Left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning figures of 2/23 from his 3.3 overs.

2. 2016 – KL Rahul’s masterclass went in vain

This was arguably the best high-scoring, edge-of-the-seat thriller in T20I history. West Indies and India battled it out in the first T20I in Florida as skipper MS Dhoni invited the two-time T20 world champions to bat after winning the toss. However, they did not mind and proved that it was indeed a good toss to lose as Evin Lewis and Johnson Charles added 126 runs for the opening stand. It was Lewis who left the Indian bowlers shell-shocked with his amazing power-hitting.

He ended up scoring a 49-ball 100 that powered the Caribbeans to a mammoth 245/6.In reply, KL Rahul kept India in the hunt as the wicket became easier to bat in the second innings. He toyed around with the formidable Windies bowling attack and went on to score an unbeaten 110 runs off 51 deliveries. However, it was a sad end for India as MS Dhoni, who attempted to play a victory shot on the final ball of the match, was completely outfoxed by his CSK teammate Dwayne Bravo as Marlon Samuels completed a simple catch at short third man as India were restricted to 244/4 as the Windies ended up registering victory from the jaws of defeat by one run.

After a heartbreaking one-run loss, the stage was set for India to settle scores at the same venue two days later, but the rain had other ideas. The Men in Blue had restricted the Caribbeans to a below-par total of 143 after winning the toss and bowling first. Johnson Charles top-scored for the hosts with 43 runs off 25 deliveries and Amit Mishra registered figures of 3/24.

However, there were many problems throughout the contest. In fact, the start of the match was delayed by 40 minutes due to technical reasons and when India were cruising at 15/0 after two overs, there was a rain interruption and the downpour was so heavy that the game had to be called off as no play was possible.
