Pakistan managed to rescue themselves after being on the verge of defeat at one stage as the second Test against Australia resulted in yet another draw at the National Stadium in Karachi. Not many would have expected to see two drawn Tests in Pakistan which has been a rare result in the current era and a lot will go down into the pitches that have been prepared. Australia batted first and declared at a mammoth total of 556 for 9 with Usman Khawaja’s 160 turning out to be the standout innings for the visitors.

In reply, from getting all out to 148 in the first innings, the Babar Azam led side put up an excellent fight in their second innings as they batted 171 overs to save the game scoring 443 for 7. Chasing 506 to victory, the Pakistan skipper played a humungous knock of 196 in 425 deliveries while Mohammad Rizwan remained unbeaten on 104 at stumps on the final day to settle for a draw.

With another draw, both teams have held on to their top two positions in the World Test Championship table 2021-23. However, the win percentage for both teams have gone down considerably as Australia is at the top with 60 points at 71.42% while Pakistan is at second position with 44 points at 61.11%.

Australia favourites to make the finals from hereon:

Australia is likely to make the finals of the World Test Championship 2021-23 with their current dominance so far at the top while there will be a lot of fight for the second finalist at the moment. Pakistan has done well to not lose the second Test to Australia despite conceding a big lead in the first innings and it has added a little bit of strength to their second position in the table.

However, India winning both Tests against Sri Lanka is likely to hamper Pakistan’s chances as the Rohit Sharma led side has moved into the fourth position with 77 points at 58.33%. South Africa, which is currently at the third position has their alive still as well with 36 points at 60%. The road seems difficult at the moment for the defending champions New Zealand who are at the sixth position and they do not have many Tests left before the finals to improve their numbers.
