The second Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka hosted by the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur ended in favour of the visitors as Sri Lanka showed great grit and determination in winning the series after the first Test match ended in a stalemate. Brilliant batting efforts from Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das helped the hosts to put up a big total, but the visitors left no page unturned to do their bit.
The second and final Test of the series started with Bangladesh putting up 365 runs in the first innings. After a major collapse at the start of the innings, Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim stitched up a record sixth-wicket stand to take their team to the big total with the latter remaining unbeaten throughout.
But Sri Lanka replied in style as the openers put up a 95-run partnership, which was followed by centuries from the Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal. The batting line-up displayed sheer composure as Sri Lanka ended up scoring a whopping 506 runs.
The visitors’ bowling department did the work in Bangladesh’s second innings as the hosts were dismissed cheaply for 169 runs. Asitha Fernando finished with his best bowling figures in a Test match as he registered 6/51. Bangladesh had only a 28-run lead, which made things even easier for the visitors. Oshada Fernando hit three fours and a six while walking out to bat and won the game for Sri Lanka, thereby winning the series 1-0.
