Here's how World Test Championship points table looks after India's memorable win at MCG

India won the Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne with their splendid team effort and determination. India were seen in low spirits after their utter dismal show in Adelaide and their chances to bounce back in the second game looked slim. However, the stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane took the responsibility in full confidence and guided India to a memorable Test win in absence of Virat Kohli.

In fact, he was declared as the man of the match for his stunning ton in the first innings and finishing thing in style during the second innings. Talking of the second innings, India ended the show of host on 200 runs and had only 70 runs to chase down, owing to their lead in the first innings. Though Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara stumbled again, debutant Shubman Gill and Rahane brought India a much-needed win.

After India’s brilliant victory without the services of their prime players Mohammad Shami and Virat Kohli, it still stands in the second position in the ICC WTC points table. The latest rule by ICC states that the win percentage would be taken into consideration rather than total win points by the team. Australia are at the top with 322 points and a win percentage of 76.6. Before the commencement of this series, Australia had a win percentage of 83.5.

India on second spot in ICC WTC points table with win percentage of 72.2

After winning the Melbourne Test, India bagged 30 points and are currently at the second slot with 390 points and a win percentage of 72.2. New Zealand, England, and Pakistan form the top five elements of the WTC points table. India would be looking up to maintain its winning ways in the third Test match also.

Talking of the third Test, it is still unsure whether pacer Umesh Yadav would come back in the game owing to his injury. Rohit Sharma is all set to mark his comeback and will join India’s Test squad on 30th December. It will be a thing to see how India will move up further in the ongoing Border Gavaskar series.
