The head coach of the Indian team Ravi Shastri is the world’s highest-paid coach currently with a total amount of $1.17 million per year which sums up to Rs. 7 Crore. Even the skipper Virat Kohli draws less money compared to him from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, many have been bamboozled with the fact that the coach is being paid more than the players and even the captain of the team who is in Grade A in the central contract.

Recently, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni along with Shastri had a meeting with Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) in which they discussed the issue of the increased revenue to the cricketers. Their request was also accepted by CoA as the details are yet to go on air with the central contracts set to be rejigged soon. Though it remains to be seen if the payment of coach is increased or changed in this case.

Why BCCI pays Shastri so much?

According to the recent reports on Topyaps, the main reason BCCI has to pay such a hefty amount to Ravi Shastri as he had to leave all his other work before taking over as the head coach of the Indian team. He was the renowned commentator and also used to write columns in the newspapers before he was picked at the helm by the Indian board. However, he had to give up all his other assignments to avoid any conflict of interests.

Interestingly, Shastri earns only less than only what the top player from Australia, England, and India earns in a year. Also, Darren Lehmann, the coach of Australia is paid almost half amount of what their top player earns. Though Virat Kohli earns much more with brand endorsements and advertisements for which he takes Rs. 5 Crore per advertise.
