It is widely said that even though Virat Kohli is the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, MS Dhoni still remains the boss whom his successor consults on many occasions. Dhoni is still that same old wicketkeeper who guides the bowlers from behind the stumps. And an instance of this surfaced once again from the 4
And an instance of this surfaced once again from the 4th ODI between India and West Indies, which the visitors lost by 11 runs in a down to the wire game.
In the 17th over of West Indies’ innings, Ravindra Jadeja was bowling to Kyle Hope when Dhoni’s voice was recorded by the stump mic. Jadeja conceded no runs in the first four balls that he bowled. However, in the fifth delivery, Hope took a single which meant Jadeja’s hope of a maiden over was destroyed.
This is when Dhoni was recorded speaking to Jadeja saying that 1 run in 5 balls is a good effort. “Chaar ball chala gaya, ek run nikal gaya, toh dikkat nahi hai,” Dhoni told Jadeja.

Although India were the favorites going into the game, the West Indies outperformed them in all three departments. A loss in the 4th ODI meant India will have to win the 5th one to win the series or it will end up in a draw. Ajinkya Rahane and MS Dhoni tried their best to save India from the jaws of defeat but Jason Holder’s bowling on the day was exceptional as he took 5/27 as the Indian battling up kept depleting quickly.
Self-belief is Holder’s motto
“I always believe in myself. I thought I was doing fairly well in the series so far. Only criticism was at the back end. Roddy Estwick told me not to try too many things and just stick to my plans, and that’s what I did,” Holder said after the match was won by his team. The 5th ODI will be played on July 6 at Kingston.
