Several T10 and T20 leagues are being played in some of the countries as cricket is slowly but steadily resuming. Even international matches are set to resume after almost four months with the Test series between England and the West Indies from July 8. Meanwhile, cricket in Sri Lanka also resumed on Monday with the UVA T20 Premier League.

Four teams were set to compete in the tournament over a week as the first two matches also were played on the opening day. It was also reported that the likes of Farveez Maharoof, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Thilan Thushara, Dasun Shanaka and and Ajantha Mendis. The fans were also excited for the tournament to see cricketers with international experience fight it out in the middle.

However, the tournament got cancelled after the two matches were played. This might surprise the cricket fans as the opening game of the tournament had witnessed some thrilling action with both the sides scoring more than 200 runs.

SLC unauthorised the league

The main reason for the cancellation of the league is that the legal team of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to unauthorise the tournament according to a fantasty platform. Interestingly, the board had earlier approved the UVA Premier League after which it commenced on Monday. Also, the likes of Dilshan, Maharoof, Mendis or Shanaka didn’t play as well in any of the two matches played.

Rather Maharoof took to his official Twitter account on Sunday to clear that the news of him playing the league is fake and he isn’t interested to speak on the matter or to play the tournament.

This is the second tournament in Sri Lanka to get cancelled in the last few days. Earlier, the PDC T10 League was scheduled to be played from June 25 and Nuwan Kulsekara and Ajantha Mendis among others were reportedly set to feature in it. Even then, the SLC had cleared that the required permission to play the league haven’t been sought by the organisers. The wait continues for the Asian cricket fans to witness some live cricket.
