Virat Kohli is one of the richest cricketers in the world right now and definitely the highest-earning cricketer at present. Indian skipper’s huge popularity has made him the poster boy of dozens of brands. The reason behind his unparalleled popularity is his unprecedented batting exploits on the cricket field and his personality which attracts the young generation.
No surprises then that Virat Kohli’s garage is full of posh and luxury cars. The batting star is a big car enthusiast and has an extravagant collection of some of the costliest cars in the world. He is also a brand ambassador of Audi India for a long time now. The 32-year old lays his hands on a new car with every new car launch from Audi India.
So if Virat Kohli gets a new car every now and then, what happens to the old ones? This question must have intrigued many fans over the years. Well, one of his old cars is lying in the police station in Maharashtra and is now only collecting dust and dirt.
The reason behind the car at the police station?
Before you start assuming the likeliest of reasons, let us tell you Virat Kohli was not involved in any crime that led to his car ending up at the police station. The reason behind it is something else. When Audi India launched the new R8, Virat Kohli sold the older model he was using. It was a 2012 Audi R8 and was Kohli’s first.
In 2016, he sold it through a broker to a man named Sagar Thakkar. According to CarToq, Sagar was later involved in a scam and it eventually led to the car being seized by the police. He bought the car from the India cricketer to gift it to his girlfriend. Sagar, however, soon fell in trouble because of his involvement in a mega scam and was arrested by Mumbai Police.
He went into hiding after the call center scam was unearthed. Mumbai Police raided his properties and seized the Audi R8. Fortunately, Kohli had his paperwork done properly and thus did not face any trouble after the car was seized by the police. Sagar bought the car for about Rs 2.5 crore and it was seized within two months. The vehicle has been parked in a Mumbai Police ground since then. In the past, Kohli was pictured with the very same Audi R8 on several occasions and he used to love driving this car around.
