Herschelle Gibbs drops harsh criticism at Shamsi after he dropped an absolute sitter
Shamsi dropped Rohit when he was on 96.
In the ongoing One-Day International between South Africa and India, the toss fell in Aiden Markram’s favour and he asked the opposition to bat first. Rohit Sharma, who was struggling in the series so far finally found his feet moving in the right direction which eventually helped him register their 17th ODI century. Interestingly, the 27-year-old chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi dropped a sitter when Sharma was on 96.
In the 34th over, that he played a ramped shot on a delivery form Kagiso Rabada which drew mixed emotions from the Indian dressing room as skipper Virat Kohli thought the ball was hit good enough to go over the boundary rope, while coach Ravi Shastri could see that it was going straight in the hands of Shamsi. However, the latter proved to be right, but Tabraiz Shamsi slid in to his left and got to the ball but grassed an absolute sitter right at the boundary ropes.
The Proteas dressing room looked absolutely dejected and the bowler Rabada just couldn’t believe it and was absolutely fuming. Dropping someone like Sharma can cost the team huge since he has the tendency to go big after reaching the hundred. Shamsi apologised right away but that didn’t solve the purpose as Rohit went on to score 112 runs for his side. The innings also helped him regain the lost momentum.
Later, he departed edging an out-swinger from Lungi Ngidi, playing away from his body. While walking back to the pavilion Sharma was disappointed and angry at himself as he realised that his wicket might well play a huge role in total India eventually manage as they finished at least 25 runs short, scoring 275 in their quota of 50 overs.
Gibbs cannot digest it
Among those who thought it was an unforgivable mistake was the former South African batsman, Herschelle Gibbs lashed out Shamsi with a tweet. He wrote, “Can’t believe in this modern age there are still overweight players playing for the Proteas… #pisspoor”
