The off-spinner took 12 wickets in two games alongside scoring a half-century, earning praises from different corners. Speaking of Ashwin’s achievement, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had called him an ‘all-time great.’ While his statement left the cricket world divided, the 34-year-old has maintained his stance. Following the conclusion of the second Test, Rohit lauded Ashwin’s contribution towards the team’s success while talking about his wicket-taking abilities. He also explained why the off-spinner is a legend of the game.
Ravi Ashwin is a legend of the game: Rohit Sharma
“It was my feeling (about being the best bowler), he does something for the team whenever he’s given the ball, gives match-winning performance every time he’s given the ball, so I think he’s a legend of the game. Every time the ball is handed to him, he comes up with the good,” said Rohit in the post-match conversation.
“We wanted to achieve a few things as a team and we did that. It is only the third day-night test in India so we are still learning how to handle these conditions. The crowd coming back and celebrating with us has been so pleasing,” he added.
Earlier, Rohit lavished massive praises on Ashwin for his all-round show in the Mohali Test. The clash also marked Rohit’s maiden leadership assignment in Test matches and he was mighty pleased with Ashwin’s performance.
“He is an all-time great in my eyes. He is playing for so many years and performed for the country. So many match-winning performances, so for me, he is an all-time great. People might have different point of views but from where I see, he is an all-time great for me,” the veteran opener had said.
