“He's been like a big brother to me, a father-figure" - Nicholas Pooran thanks Kieron Pollard for his support

Friendships or any other relationship for that matter are tested to the hilt in times of adversity. It is at this stage of our life when we realize the true colours of our close ones. It is also the time when we realize that most of the time, the help comes from the least expected source.

Nicholas Pooran- the West Indies swashbuckling batsman- has been through that phase in the past three years. Three years ago, Pooran was met with an unfortunate accident, one that left him unable to walk for a period of six months.

It was a traumatic time for the southpaw; not only was he dealing with the physical pain, but the mental trauma was also unbearable. But, then, a guardian angel in the form of Kieron Pollard proceeded to be his guiding light in such times of wilderness for Pooran, and now three years later, the southpaw is slowly-and-steadily becoming the heartbeat of the West Indian middle-order.

But, Pooran hasn’t forgotten the support that Pollard has given them in all these years and in all this glory, he didn’t forget to mention his captain’s support in the post-match press conference

“He’s been like a big brother to me, a father-figure. He’s been there since I returned to cricket,” Pooran said after the match in Cuttack. He gave me an opportunity. I’m thankful for that,” said Pooran as quoted by NDTVSports.

Pooran and Pollard- the swashbuckling P’s- annihilated the Indian bowling unit during the course of their 135-run-stand in the series decider in Cuttack. When Pooran about the partnership, the left-hander can’t help but reminisce about the days when they used to bat together while also mentioning their plan of Pollard going after the spinners and him taking care of the fast bowlers on Sunday.

“We (him and Pollard) knew each other and we are really good friends on and off the field. So we know how to complement each other while batting. We play with each other, with the same club, same franchise back home. So we had good understanding of the wicket and the situation in the game and just executed our skills. We know how to complement each other. Polly was stronger to the spinners, so we allowed him to attack Kuldeep (Yadav) and I would try and play more shots to the pacers. It worked out.” Nicholas Pooran said.
