'He's having a bit of trouble running at full speed' - Justin Langer shares an update on David Warner
Langer said that Warner wants to make sure that he is 100% fit.
Australia’s opening batsman David Warner was in red-hot form in the three-match One Day series against India having played two remarkable knocks of 69 and 83 in the first two ODIs respectively. However, Warner sustained a groin injury while fielding in the second ODI and was ruled out of the ODI and T20I series.
In the same light, the opening batter didn’t feature in the first Test against India in Adelaide where the hosts registered a comprehensive victory against the visitors by 8 wickets. Subsequently, Warner failed to make it to the Playing XI of the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
David Warner batted very well yesterday in the nets, says Langer
Giving an update on David Warner’s injury, Australia’s head coach Justin Langer revealed that Warner had batted in the nets ahead of the second Test against India and was looking enthusiastic but he was facing trouble in running at his full speed. Warner is known for his terrific running between the wickets and he will be back in the team only when he is completely confident about his body.
“We’re very hopeful. He batted very well yesterday in the nets, he’s moving well (and) he’s as enthusiastic as ever. He’s got so much energy and passion for the game and he’ll be doing everything possible to get out onto the ground. He’s having a bit of trouble running at full speed. When he gets back and feels confident with it, of course, he’ll come back into our team. We’ll just monitor him, and fingers crossed he’ll be back.” Justin Langer said.
On being asked whether the batsman will be available for the third Test against India, Langer stated that the team is constantly monitoring him and he is a great asset but Warner wants to make sure that he is 100% fit.
“We know how dynamic he is, there’s no one more dynamic in the game with his running between the wickets and with the way he fields. He wants to make sure he’s 100 per cent fit for that because he gets great energy personally and as a group, we get great energy out of that,” Langer told reporters in the conference ahead of the second Test against India.
