Jos Buttler has not only made the bat do the talking with his consistent performances in the ongoing IPL 2022 but has also been Rajasthan Royals’ savior on most occasions. His promising innings of a 24-ball 54 in the last match against the Gujarat Titans came to an abrupt end after he was undone by a brilliant yorker from Lockie Ferguson, but, he continued his splendid run on the 22 yards against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on April 18. He smashed KKR bowlers all over the park and brought up his second ton of the season.

After being put in to bat by KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer, Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal went after the Kolkata bowlers right from the beginning and the duo added 97 runs for the opening stand before the latter was dismissed in the 10th over for 24 runs off 18 balls. The Englishman was then involved in a 67-run stand with skipper Sanju Samson for the second wicket.

In both partnerships, it was Buttler who had a lion’s share in scoring runs, and that too at a brisk rate as he single-handedly toyed around with the KKR pace attack. After Samson’s dismissal in the 16th over, the England limited-overs specialist showed no signs of slowing down and ended the over with a splendid shot of a delivery from West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell by hitting it through backward point. Prior to that, he had successfully cleared the mid-wicket boundary with a pull shot on the fourth delivery.

The moment of glory came on the first delivery that was re-bowled by Pat Cummins after having conceded a wide of the previous one. Buttler made the most of the extra ball by dispatching a low full-toss over the long-on fence for a maximum and thereby, getting to three figures in style.

Unfortunately for him, his stay at the crease came to an end in the very same over. On the fourth delivery, Cummins bowled a short ball on the middle and leg stump line as Jos looked to hit it into the stands. However, he could not time it well and the ball took the top edge and went straight into the hands of Varun Chakravarthy at fine leg who made absolutely no mistake while completing the catch as the Englishman walked back to the dugout for 103 runs from 61 deliveries at an outstanding strike rate of 168.9 including nine fours and five sixes.

This was Jos Buttler’s second century this season and third overall in his IPL career. Courtesy of his whirlwind knock, RR posted a mammoth total of 217/5.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to Buttler’s stellar ton:
