The Infotainment of Cricket with CricTracker App
Cricket has come a long way from days when batters’ priority was to bat for as long as they could. Now scoring runs has taken center stage and that is the only concern that any batter and team has. The advent of T20I created has even furthered the speed of batting in cricket.
As the game continues to inch forward batters continue to smash batting records. What has been considered a great strike rate in yesteryears is now just regular batting. There are some batters who have set a benchmark for quick batting in the ODI World Cup history. These batters have taken their respective teams to a number of wins and entertained cricket fans with their sensational batting.
The batter who adorns the record books for the highest strike rate in ODI World Cup history is the former New Zealand batter, Brandon McCullum. The right-hand batter played with a tremendous strike rate of 120.84 in the 34 matches that he played for the Kiwis in the ODI World Cup.
In those matches, he has made 742 runs with a highest individual score of 101. His average of 33.72 is not bad either for an opener. McCullum has now taken retirement and had moved into coaching. The 41-year-old now works as the head coach of the England Cricket team. He has imparted his quickfire batting into the English Test side and created a new-age batting style called the Bazball. With this approach, England continue to play Test matches with quick batting.
The second batter on the list is South African great AB de Villiers. De Villiers played 23 matches for South Africa in which he batted at a brilliant strike rate of 117.29. The swashbuckling batter made 1207 runs for the African side with an extraordinary average of 63.52. His highest of 162* remains one of the best ODI World Cup centuries.
Cricket fans would be looking to see a similar kind of batting from other batters who are taking part in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
