MS Dhoni – 148 v Pakistan: In 2005, MS Dhoni scored his maiden ODI century during the 2nd match of Pakistan tour to India at Vizag. Dhoni came in at number 3 and put on 96 runs with Virender Sehwag for the 2nd wicket after Sachin was dismissed cheaply. He brought his half century in 49 balls. The real onslaught began after that; he went on to complete his century in 88 balls and was eventually dismissed for 148 in 123 balls by Mohammad Hafeez. Adam Gilchrist – 149 v Sri Lanka: During the finals of the World Cup 2007, Adam Gilchrist singlehandedly took the World Cup away from the Sri Lankan side. In a rain-curtailed match, that was cut down to 38 overs a side final, Gilchrist was slow to start but managed to get to his 50 in 43 balls. He stepped on the accelerator and marched on to get to his century in just 72 balls. He continued the attack before he was halted by Dilhara Fernando in the 31st over. He was dismissed by Chaminda Vaas in the 46th over. Sri Lanka, in reply, were bowled out for 267 and Australia won the match by 43 runs. 5. Denesh Ramdin – 169 v Bangladesh: When Denesh Ramdin scored 169 off 121 balls against Bangladesh at St. Kitts in 2014 in the 3rd ODI, he created many records. He became the 5th wicketkeeper to score in excess of 150 in an ODI. This was the highest by a West Indies batsman at home, beating Desmond Haynes’ 152 not out against India in Georgetown, way back in 1989. This is also the second-highest ODI score by a batsman in West Indies. Upul Tharanga’s unbeaten 174 against India in Kingston remains the highest. Kumar Sangakkara – 169 v South Africa: In the first ODI of South Africa’s tour to Sri Lanka in 2013, Sangakkara’s 169 helped Sri Lanka thrash South Africa by 180 runs. Coming in at number 3, the veteran took 137 balls for his 169 before being dismissed by Aaron Phangiso. His dominance was such that the second highest score in the match after Sangakkara was Upul Tharanga’s 43. Sangakkara hit 18 boundaries and 6 towering maximums to take Sri Lanka’s score to 320/5. South Africa in reply, collapsed to 140 all out in less than 32 overs. Sangakkara dominated the South African attack with unusual aggression.
