Partnership, in a team sport, is an important aspect that goes a long way in ensuring victory for the team. There have been quite a few interesting partnerships registered in the recently concluded league stage of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2015.
The highest partnership by way of runs for any wicket has been the unbroken partnership of 202* runs for the first wicket, between Sheldon Philips Jackson and Avi Arunbhai Barot of Saurashtra in the match against Goa, played on 12th December 2015, at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.
Winning the toss Saurashtra, led by Jaydev Niranjan Shah, elected to field. But for the Goa skipper, Sagun Krishna Kamat, who scored a well made 95 runs with the help of 8 fours, facing 141 deliveries in 185 minutes, no other batsman could make any significant contribution. Kamat missed his third List A century by a very narrow margin.
Backed by a good bowling performance by the medium pacer, Shaurya Mahesh Sanandia (8.4-1-41-3) and the left-arm spinner, Ravindra Jadeja (10-0-31-2), Saurashtra was successful in restricting Goa to 199/10 in 47.4 overs.
Chasing the target of 200 runs in 50 overs, the young Saurashtra openers, wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson and Avi Barot, plundered 202 runs in just 26.4 overs and established the best partnership (unbroken 202* runs) for any wicket in this edition of the tournament.
Playing in his 28th match (26th innings), Sheldon went on to register his 4th List A century. He had scored a century (111) in his 27th match (25th innings) against Madhya Pradesh.
Sheldon scored an unbeaten 150* runs in 121 minutes, facing 13 deliveries, studded with 22 fours and 4 sixes. He had a massive 145.63 strike rate. Barot, playing in his 23rd game (23rd innings) scored an unbeaten 49* runs off 57 deliveries with 4 fours in 121 minutes. He missed his sixth half-century by a solitary run.
By virtue of this huge unbroken partnership, Saurashtra won the game by 10 wickets.
