For any team to win a game in IPL, it is important to have good partnerships in the middle during their innings. Even when the team is down and out in the game, one good partnership can bring it back into the contest. There have been many memorable matches in which batters have added runs in difficult situations to win games. In this article, we will be listing out the highest partnerships in IPL for each wicket.
The record for the highest opening partnership belongs to two opening duos. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul, who added an unbeaten 210 against KKR in IPL 2022. De Kock was on fire smashing an unbeaten 140 off just 70 deliveries while the LSG skipper played a perfect foil for him scoring 68 runs off just 51 deliveries. This was also the highest partnership for any wicket against KKR in the history of IPL.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan got their name etched name for being the second pair to have scored 210 runs for the first wicket stand. In what was an absolute mayhem, after an early vigil, Gill upped the ante and started smashing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowlers for fun. This led Gill to score a magnanimous ton (104) in 55 balls. On the other hand, Sudharsan too showed his strokeplay and kept the opposition under the pump from the other end. The youngster too notched up his century (103) in just 51 balls. As a result, the pair ended up levelling the highest stand for the first wicket in the ongoing IPL 2024 season.
Among the second wicket record, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers added 229 runs in IPL 2016, which is also the overall record for the highest partnership for any wicket. The dashing duo smashed centuries in the game with RCB winning by 144 runs in the end.
The highest partnership for the third wicket was registered in an IPL 2022 game by Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube who added 165 runs together. Chennai Super Kings posted 216/4 in their first innings and won the contest by 23 runs against the RCB.
In the last league match of RCB in IPL 2019, Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Singh Maan shared a 144-run partnership for the fourth wicket to help the team chase the target of 176 runs. Hetmyer slammed 75 runs off 47 balls with the help of 4 fours and 6 sixes.
Shakib Al Hasan and Yusuf Pathan stitched a 134-run partnership for the fifth wicket taking the team total to 158/4 in 20 overs after an early collapse. However, this score was not enough as they lost to Gujarat Lions by 5 wickets with 12 balls to spare.

In the IPL 2012 game against RCB, the MI team registered a memorable victory by 5 wickets with the help of a brilliant partnership between Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard for the sixth wicket. MI had lost their first 5 wickets for only 51 runs in a 172-run target, but this duo added 122 runs to ensure a win for the team.
For the seventh wicket, the record belongs to Jagadeesha Suchith and Harbhajan Singh as they added 100 runs against Punjab in IPL 2019. Harbhajan smacked a 19-ball fifty but could not achieve the required target for the team in the chase.
The other partnerships for the 8th, 9th, and 10th wicket have also come in a losing cause which is understandable because it becomes difficult to win when the lower order has spent so much time on the crease. Among these, the record for each of the last two wickets was created in the 2023 season and the one for the eighth wicket in the 2024 season.
