World Cup 2023: Highest Partnerships by Wicket in ODI World Cup History

The ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place in October and November, and India will serve as the host nation. 48 games, including three knockout matches, will be played throughout the course of the tournament's 46 days. At least ten teams will be competing in the upcoming major competition. However, the ODI World Cup schedule has not yet been made public.

Ranking-based qualifications for the World Cup include South Africa, Afghanistan, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, England, and Pakistan. Ten nations are now vying for the final two spots in the ODI World Cup 2023 in Zimbabwe in the ongoing qualification tournament. Surprisingly, teams like Sri Lanka and West Indies are also fighting for their spot in the major world event.

Talking about the ODI World Cup, the first-ever edition of the tournament was held in 1975 and was won by the Caribbean team. The grand event takes place every 4 years and in 1975, the Windies once again became the champion. But the 1983 World Cup was a golden event for Indian fans as India got their hands on the coveted trophy for the first time. However, the most dominant nation in the World Cup are Australia, which have 5 titles in its cabinet.

Meanwhile, talking about the highest partnerships by a wicket in ODI World Cup, Sri Lanka’s former opening batters Tilakratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga stitched the highest partnership of 282 runs for the first wicket against Zimbabwe in the 2011 ODI World Cup. West Indies’ Marlon Samuels and Chris Gayle stitched a humongous 382-run stand for the 2nd wicket against Zimbabwe during the 2015 edition.

Former legendary Indian batters Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid have also made it to the list as they stitched the highest partnership of 237 runs for the 3rd wicket against Kenya in the 1999 ODI World Cup. Both batters also achieved their personal milestone by smashing centuries. However, it’d be interesting whether we will witness some big partnership in the upcoming edition or not as the India pitch are likely to be batting-friendly.
