New Zealand opener Martin Guptill surpassed his previous best of 189 and remained the record holder for the highest individual score by a New Zealand batsman, in the 2015 World Cup, after scoring an unbeaten 237 off 163 balls, against West Indies, in the quarter-finals on 21 March 2016.

His stupendous innings included 11 sixes and 24 fours and the team finished at 393/6 which is the best total in a World Cup knockout match. It was a remarkable turnaround in form for him, given he went from three ducks in the lead-up matches to scoring two fifties, a century and the 237 in the quarter-finals.

Ending the tournament with 547 runs, he emerged as the highest scorer, with his team finishing second to Australia. New Zealand in that match scored 393/6 and won by 143 runs as West Indies were bowled out for 250.

Rohit Sharma became the only batsman in the history of the game to score 2 double centuries and the only player to score in excess of 250 in ODIs when he hit 264 against Sri Lanka at Kolkata in November 2014.

Having played a maiden off Angelo Mathews at the beginning of the innings, this was his comeback match after 10 weeks. As usual, he started cautiously scoring his fifty in 72 balls but he did up the ante after that by scoring a run a ball century.

He started building a crescendo with 150 coming in 25 balls and his second ODI double century coming in 151 balls. His next 64 runs came in 22 balls as he ended with a gigantic 264 off 173 balls with 33 fours and 9 sixes to his name. Zimbabwean middle order batsman, Charles Coventry got into the limelight after he broke Saeed Anwar’s record for highest the individual score in 2009 against Bangladesh. The record that was created almost a decade ago by Saeed Anwar was eventually broken by the spectacled wonder from Zimbabwe.

Coming in to bat at number 3, Coventry hit 7 sixes and 16 fours in his innings of 194* which came in 156 balls. His heroics enabled Zimbabwe score in excess of 300 as they posted 312. The day just seemed to be the perfect one for Coventry on the personal front.

He was, however, unlucky as his efforts went in vain as Bangladesh chased down the score with 4 wickets in hand. It was Tamim Iqbal’s 154 that overshadowed Coventry’s efforts. His record of scoring the highest individual score in ODIs was broken by Sachin Tendulkar (200*) and is now held by Rohit Sharma (264).

One of the greatest batsmen to have ever played the game of cricket, Sir Vivian Richards, scored an unbeaten 189 in 1984 against England at Old Trafford. In an era when scoring a century itself was a big achievement, Richards amassed a mammoth 189 off 170 balls to take the West Indies total to 272 in 55 overs.

He scored close to 75 percent of his team’s total in the match. His dominance was such that the second highest scorer for Windies in the game was Baptiste with 26 runs.

On a pitch where other Caribbean players struggled as 8 out of 11 batsmen failed to get into double digits, Richards showed his class and sheer brilliance. He hit 21 boundaries and 5 sixes. West Indies won the match by 104 runs after bowling out England for 168.

AB de Villiers came back to haunt the West Indies bowling attack during the Pool B match in the ICC World Cup 2015. Coming in at number 5, de Villiers bludgeoned the opposition bowling and hit shots all around the park. He reached his fifty in 30 deliveries and then started peaking at the right time.

The next 112 runs came in just 36 deliveries. He reached his century in 52 balls and took only 12 balls for the 150-run mark. He was dealing in sixes! He kept hitting boundaries and sixes with ease as he ended up scoring 162* in 66 balls with 17 fours and 8 sixes as South Africa finished with the score of 408/5 in their 50 overs.

West Indies bundled out for just 151 in response and South Africa celebrated an emphatic win. Interestingly, a couple of months prior to this encounter, AB had hit the fastest ODI century against the same opposition, when he reached the landmark in just 31 balls!

<strong>Number 6: Kapil Dev &#8211; 175* v Zimbabwe:</strong>

India created history when they won the 1983 World Cup under the leadership of Kapil Dev. The team that went with no expectations emerged as the best team in the tournament. One of the key contributions en route the victorious Indian campaign was their win over Zimbabwe.

India were rocked severely by Zimbabwean bowlers at Tunbridge Wells as they limped on 17/5. What perspired after that remains to be a part of the history. Kapil Dev singlehandedly bailed India out of trouble as he scored a magnificent 175* to take India to a respectable score of 266 by the end of 60 overs.

His knock included 16 fours and 6 sixes. Zimbabwe, in reply, could manage only 235. The unfortunate part of the story is the fact that the match was not telecast due to a strike by the broadcasters. His fans could never get to see the footage of his historic knock.

During the 5<sup>th</sup> ODI against Sri Lanka in early 2015, the Kiwi wicket keeper batsman Luke Ronchi entered the record books as he scored blitzkrieg 170* of just 99 balls. He surpassed MS Dhoni’s 139* as the highest score batting at number 7.

With New Zealand struggling at 93/5, Ronchi walked in. He put on a record unbeaten stand of 267 off 180 balls with Grant Elliot to take New Zealand to 360/5 in 50 overs. Ronchi’s 170 came off just 99 balls with 14 fours and 9 sixes to his name.

Sri Lanka lost the game by 108 runs as they could post just 252 in reply. Ronchi is one of the few cricketers who have played international cricket for two countries. He started playing cricket for Australia and then moved to New Zealand in search of better options and future.

Nobody would have fancied England’s chances against Sri Lanka in the first ODI of Sri Lanka’s tour to England in 2016. Sri Lanka had put up 286 runs on the board after batting first. England were down and out on 82/6 when Chris Woakes walked in to join Jos Buttler at the crease.

The duo put on 134 runs for the 7<sup>th</sup> wicket before Buttler perished on 93. Woakes continued to negotiate the bowlers and in the process, brought up his 50 in 57 balls. He wasn’t done just yet. He continued playing and put on 50 off 26 balls with Liam Plunkett for the 9th wicket.

His heroics of an unbeaten 95 off 92 balls with 4 fours combined with last over hitting by Plunkett saw England tie the game by the end of the stipulated 50 overs. He overtook Thomas Odoyo’s 84 to become the top scorer at number 8 position.

During India&#8217;s tour of West Indies in 2011, Andre Russell hit an unbeaten 92 at number 9 position to announce his arrival as a batsman. It was during the 3rd ODI at Antigua when he achieved this feat. West Indies lost 7 of their batsmen with just 96 runs on the board.

In walked Russell and scored a breezy 92 of just 64 balls with 8 fours and 5 towering maximums. His efforts in the lower order saw West Indies post a decent total of 225 on the board.

His heroics couldn’t quite turn into a match winning performance though, as an unbeaten 86 from Rohit Sharma saw India ease past the target with over 3 overs to spare.

<strong>Number 10: Ravi Rampaul &#8211; 86* v India:</strong>

Ravi Rampaul has never been known for his prowess with the bat. But the big burly West Indies pacer showed some mettle when he belted down an unbeaten 86 off 66 balls against India at Vizag during West Indies tour of India in 2011. West Indies were stuttering at 149/8 when Rampaul walked in to bat.

He put a 21-run stand with Andre Russell for the 9th wicket and then added 99 runs for the last wicket with Kemar Roach to take West Indies to 269/9 by the end of 50 overs. During his knock, he hit 6 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 130.30.

His efforts went in vain as India chased the total with ease and were powered by a Virat Kohli masterclass of 117. Interestingly, Kohli’s wicket was scalped by Rampaul in the match. He finished with figures of 2/62 after his brilliant hand with the bat.

The 3rd ODI between England and Pakistan saw a lot of records tumble. Alex Hales’ brute force knock of 171 saw England post the highest ever total in the history of ODI cricket – a mammoth 444/3 by the end of 50 overs.

Pakistan were never in the game and were virtually out of the game at 199/9 when Mohammad Amir walked in to bat. Amir hit 58 off 28 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. The match headed in England’s direction all the time. But Amir’s knock was something to cheer about for the Pakistani fans.

Mohammad Amir broke Shoaib Akhtar’s record for the highest score in ODIs at number 11. Akhtar’s quickfire 43 off 16 balls had also come in a losing cause during the 2003 ICC World Cup at Newlands, Cape Town.

<p>India created history when they won the 1983 World Cup under the leadership of Kapil Dev. The team that went with no expectations emerged as the best team in the tournament. One of the key contributions en route the victorious Indian campaign was their win over Zimbabwe.</p>

<p>During the 5<sup>th</sup> ODI against Sri Lanka in early 2015, the Kiwi wicket keeper batsman Luke Ronchi entered the record books as he scored blitzkrieg 170* of just 99 balls. He surpassed MS Dhoni’s 139* as the highest score batting at number 7.</p>
<p>With New Zealand struggling at 93/5, Ronchi walked in. He put on a record unbeaten stand of 267 off 180 balls with Grant Elliot to take New Zealand to 360/5 in 50 overs. Ronchi’s 170 came off just 99 balls with 14 fours and 9 sixes to his name.</p>

<p>Nobody would have fancied England’s chances against Sri Lanka in the first ODI of Sri Lanka’s tour to England in 2016. Sri Lanka had put up 286 runs on the board after batting first. England were down and out on 82/6 when Chris Woakes walked in to join Jos Buttler at the crease.</p>
<p>The duo put on 134 runs for the 7<sup>th</sup> wicket before Buttler perished on 93. Woakes continued to negotiate the bowlers and in the process, brought up his 50 in 57 balls. He wasn’t done just yet. He continued playing and put on 50 off 26 balls with Liam Plunkett for the 9th wicket.</p>

<p>During India’s tour of West Indies in 2011, Andre Russell hit an unbeaten 92 at number 9 position to announce his arrival as a batsman. It was during the 3rd ODI at Antigua when he achieved this feat. West Indies lost 7 of their batsmen with just 96 runs on the board.</p>
<p>In walked Russell and scored a breezy 92 of just 64 balls with 8 fours and 5 towering maximums. His efforts in the lower order saw West Indies post a decent total of 225 on the board.</p>
<p>His heroics couldn’t quite turn into a match winning performance though, as an unbeaten 86 from Rohit Sharma saw India ease past the target with over 3 overs to spare.</p>

<p>Ravi Rampaul has never been known for his prowess with the bat. But the big burly West Indies pacer showed some mettle when he belted down an unbeaten 86 off 66 balls against India at Vizag during West Indies tour of India in 2011. West Indies were stuttering at 149/8 when Rampaul walked in to bat.</p>
<p>He put a 21-run stand with Andre Russell for the 9th wicket and then added 99 runs for the last wicket with Kemar Roach to take West Indies to 269/9 by the end of 50 overs. During his knock, he hit 6 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 130.30.</p>
<p>His efforts went in vain as India chased the total with ease and were powered by a Virat Kohli masterclass of 117. Interestingly, Kohli’s wicket was scalped by Rampaul in the match. He finished with figures of 2/62 after his brilliant hand with the bat.</p>

<p>The 3rd ODI between England and Pakistan saw a lot of records tumble. Alex Hales’ brute force knock of 171 saw England post the highest ever total in the history of ODI cricket – a mammoth 444/3 by the end of 50 overs.</p>
<p>Pakistan were never in the game and were virtually out of the game at 199/9 when Mohammad Amir walked in to bat. Amir hit 58 off 28 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. The match headed in England’s direction all the time. But Amir’s knock was something to cheer about for the Pakistani fans.</p>
<p>Mohammad Amir broke Shoaib Akhtar’s record for the highest score in ODIs at number 11. Akhtar’s quickfire 43 off 16 balls had also come in a losing cause during the 2003 ICC World Cup at Newlands, Cape Town.</p>

<p>Pakistan’s pace bowler Mohammad Amir entered the record books when he hit a quickfire 58 against England in the 3rd ODI during Pakistan’s tour of England 2016. Though his effort went in vain, he managed to register the highest score by a player batting at number 11. His efforts outclassed the previous record holder, Shoaib Akhtar, who had hit 43 runs batting at the same position against the same opposition England way back in 2003 at Newlands, Cape Town.</p>

<p>New Zealand opener Martin Guptill surpassed his previous best of 189 and remained the record holder for the highest individual score by a New Zealand batsman, in the 2015 World Cup, after scoring an unbeaten 237 off 163 balls, against West Indies, in the quarter-finals on 21 March 2016.</p>
<p>His stupendous innings included 11 sixes and 24 fours and the team finished at 393/6 which is the best total in a World Cup knockout match. It was a remarkable turnaround in form for him, given he went from three ducks in the lead-up matches to scoring two fifties, a century and the 237 in the quarter-finals.</p>
<p>Ending the tournament with 547 runs, he emerged as the highest scorer, with his team finishing second to Australia. New Zealand in that match scored 393/6 and won by 143 runs as West Indies were bowled out for 250.</p>

<p>Rohit Sharma became the only batsman in the history of the game to score 2 double centuries and the only player to score in excess of 250 in ODIs when he hit 264 against Sri Lanka at Kolkata in November 2014.</p>
<p>Having played a maiden off Angelo Mathews at the beginning of the innings, this was his comeback match after 10 weeks. As usual, he started cautiously scoring his fifty in 72 balls but he did up the ante after that by scoring a run a ball century.</p>
<p>He started building a crescendo with 150 coming in 25 balls and his second ODI double century coming in 151 balls. His next 64 runs came in 22 balls as he ended with a gigantic 264 off 173 balls with 33 fours and 9 sixes to his name. Courtesy his knock, India posted 404 and yet again won by 153 runs as Sri Lanka managed just 251.</p>

<p>Zimbabwean middle order batsman, Charles Coventry got into the limelight after he broke Saeed Anwar’s record for highest the individual score in 2009 against Bangladesh. The record that was created almost a decade ago by Saeed Anwar was eventually broken by the spectacled wonder from Zimbabwe.</p>
<p>Coming in to bat at number 3, Coventry hit 7 sixes and 16 fours in his innings of 194* which came in 156 balls. His heroics enabled Zimbabwe score in excess of 300 as they posted 312. The day just seemed to be the perfect one for Coventry on the personal front.</p>
<p>He was, however, unlucky as his efforts went in vain as Bangladesh chased down the score with 4 wickets in hand. It was Tamim Iqbal’s 154 that overshadowed Coventry’s efforts. His record of scoring the highest individual score in ODIs was broken by Sachin Tendulkar (200*) and is now held by Rohit Sharma (264).</p>

<p>One of the greatest batsmen to have ever played the game of cricket, Sir Vivian Richards, scored an unbeaten 189 in 1984 against England at Old Trafford. In an era when scoring a century itself was a big achievement, Richards amassed a mammoth 189 off 170 balls to take the West Indies total to 272 in 55 overs.</p>
<p>He scored close to 75 percent of his team’s total in the match. His dominance was such that the second highest scorer for Windies in the game was Baptiste with 26 runs.</p>
<p>On a pitch where other Caribbean players struggled as 8 out of 11 batsmen failed to get into double digits, Richards showed his class and sheer brilliance. He hit 21 boundaries and 5 sixes. West Indies won the match by 104 runs after bowling out England for 168.</p>

<p>Ravi Rampaul has never been known for his prowess with the bat. But the big burly West Indies pacer showed some mettle when he belted down an unbeaten 86 off 66 balls against India at Vizag during West Indies tour of India in 2011. West Indies were stuttering at 149/8 when Rampaul walked in to bat.</p>
<p>He put a 21-run stand with Andre Russell for the 9th wicket and then added 99 runs for the last wicket with Kemar Roach to take West Indies to 269/9 by the end of 50 overs. During his knock, he hit 6 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 130.30.</p>
<p>His efforts went in vain as India chased the total with ease and were powered by a Virat Kohli masterclass of 117. Interestingly, Kohli’s wicket was scalped by Rampaul in the match. He finished with figures of 2/62 after his brilliant hand with the bat.</p>

<p>The 3rd ODI between England and Pakistan saw a lot of records tumble. Alex Hales’ brute force knock of 171 saw England post the highest ever total in the history of ODI cricket – a mammoth 444/3 by the end of 50 overs.</p>
<p>Pakistan were never in the game and were virtually out of the game at 199/9 when Mohammad Amir walked in to bat. Amir hit 58 off 28 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. The match headed in England’s direction all the time. But Amir’s knock was something to cheer about for the Pakistani fans.</p>
<p>Mohammad Amir broke Shoaib Akhtar’s record for the highest score in ODIs at number 11. Akhtar’s quickfire 43 off 16 balls had also come in a losing cause during the 2003 ICC World Cup at Newlands, Cape Town.</p>
