India’s tour down under in early 2016 was marked by a string of 4 defeats despite scoring in the vicinity of 300 in each game. Trailing 4-0 in the 5-match series, India stepped in to the 5th match to play for pride. As the trend of the series had been, Australia put on a mammoth 330/7 in their 50 overs. David Warner’s 113 ball 122 and a maiden ton by Mitchell Marsh (102*) saw Australia post a dominating total. India, in reply, had a flying start as Shikhar Dhawan scored a quick 56 ball 78 and Rohit Sharma was unlucky to be dismissed for a patient 99. But it was gritty knock by young Manish Pandey, playing his 4th ODI, that saw India cruise along. He scored an unbeaten 104 off 81 balls and was supported by Dhoni (34) in the end. India needed 13 to win off the last over, and skipper Dhoni bludgeoned one down the ground to make things easy for the visitors but was dismissed on the last ball. Pandey hit a cheeky boundary to bring his hundred and later hit the winning runs as India registered the highest successful run chase against Australia in Australia.
