The Indian batting line-up came a cropper in the third Test match against England. In the first innings, the Indian side was bowled out for a paltry total of just 78 runs, and in the second innings, Virat Kohli’s men suffered a dramatic collapse, and from 215/2, they were bowled out for 278, losing to England by an innings and 76 runs.
And, former Indian opening batsman Aakash Chopra has opened up on the biggest concern for the Indian side in the batting department. Chopra reckons that KL Rahul’s form is not a concern, while the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara have been amongst the runs.
Chopra further added that veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane has not been very consistent, but has managed to score a few runs. Chopra reckoned that the biggest area of concern for the Indian side at the moment is the willow-wielding skills of Rishabh Pant.
“Rahul’s form wasn’t a concern. Rohit, Kohli, and Pujara are amongst runs as well. Rahane scored a few runs as well but he’s not that consistent like he used to be. But, the biggest area of concern for me is Rishabh Pant’s batting,” said Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel.
When we are playing five bowlers, we expect runs from Rishabh Pant: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra further opined that when the Indian side is playing five bowlers in their side, then Rishabh Pant is expected to contribute with the bat. Chopra also added that when there is a ‘fab’ batsman like Pant in the Indian squad, Wriddhiman Saha cannot get a look in.
The 43-year-old Chopra concluded by stating that in the fourth Test match, the Indian team management might want to send in Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Rishabh Pant in the batting order.
“When we are playing five bowlers, we expect runs from Pant. We know that we can’t play Saha when we have a fab batsman like Pant. In the upcoming match, team management might think of sending Jadeja ahead of Pant in batting,” concluded Chopra.
The 4th Test match of the series will be played from 2nd September 2021, at the Kennington Oval in London.
