Babar Azam has emerged as one of the most consistent performers for Pakistan in the last couple of years. He has hogged the spotlight on the back of his remarkable knocks across all the formats. At the moment, he is counted as one among the best batsmen in modern-day cricket. Now, Kane Williamson, the Kiwi skipper has come out praising Pakistan’s T20I and ODI skipper.
Babar made his international debut back in 2016. Since then he has turned himself into the backbone of Pakistan’s batting line-up. There is no doubt over the fact that he is a treat to watch as a batsman when playing at his best. He looks like a Picasso with the bat being his paintbrush on the field. Also, he holds a vast range of strokes in his batting dictionary.
Kane Williamson feels the best players always have many similarities
Earlier this year, he played for Karachi Kings in PSL 2020 and had a great tournament with the bat. He scored a total of 345 runs in 10 games at an average of 49.28 and strike-rate of 123.65. Babar Azam is also the number one T20 batsman as far as the latest ICC rankings are concerned.
Talking about the 25-year-old, Williamson said that he is an extraordinary player and is always great to watch from the stands. He feels that the temperament, technique and his hunger to score runs for his team makes him one of the best in the world. As per him, every batsman has its own way of achieving glory but they still have lots of similarities in their habits in their approach.
“He is a beautiful player to watch, his cover drive and his back-foot punches are just great. One thing is common in these great players is their temperament, the hunger for runs and how they achieve is all very different but there are a lot of similarities in their approach to an innings.” Kane Williamson said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Babar Azam was recently appointed Pakistan’s ODI team skipper. It will be interesting to see if he handle dual responsibilities and continue to flourish with the bat like Virat Kohli and Williamson.
