Young opener Shubman Gill failed to get going against his former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a group stage clash being played at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on April 23 (Saturday). The right-handed batter managed to score just seven runs before getting caught on the bowling of Kiwi pacer Tim Southee.

To note, Gill scored a boundary during the fourth delivery of the first over against express pacer Umesh Yadav. However, he edged a harmless delivery going down the leg-side and was caught by the wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings. The 22-year-old looked frustrated as he trudged back to the pavilion.

Gill scored a golden duck in his previous match too

The right-handed batter also scored a first-ball duck against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in his side’s previous match. Gill was looking to cut a short and wide delivery but found Robin Uthappa at the point region. Shubman Gill was not able to get going against the Rajasthan Royals as well, making only 13 runs before getting out on the bowling of off-spinner Riyan Parag.

Talking about his numbers in IPL 2022, Gill has scored 207 runs in seven appearances. He played an excellent knock of 96 runs against the Punjab Kings and was adjudged player of the match. The 22-year-old also played a vital knock of 84 runs against the strong-bowling lineup of the Delhi Capitals and ensured that his team touch the 170-run mark. Apart from those two knocks, he hasn’t been able to make an impact for the Titans and the side will be hoping for him to regain his touch too.

It may be noted that Gill was signed by INR eight crore by the new entrants ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Talking about his overall numbers in IPL, Gill has played 65 matches in which he has amassed a total of 1624 runs at a decent average of 31.23. The right-handed batter has stroked 12 half-centuries and plays at a strike rate of almost 126. He has also represented India in 10 Tests and three ODIs.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Gill’s another failure:
